HELP! MAKE! A! CHANGE!

Are you someone who is passionate about solving inequality in education, about ending social isolation by inspiring action against climate change? Someone who is a champion for respecting differences? If these things mean something to you, then I have designed this carrd website to enhance user navigation within other carrd sources and provide resources such as various kinds of links ranging from fellow carrd websites, petitions, informative tools, donation points, etc regarding the various ongoing matters and affairs in the world. It's designed to empower you to challenge the status quo and to find your voice. Our mission should be empowering future generations to inspire a better world. But we don't simply want to explore these issues. We want to figure out how to find the part that we can play in this change. There needs to be a genuine understanding and an appreciation of the needs and wants of the people in the society. A shared desire to defy barriers. To drive this, we need people who really care about the world around them. But, one might ask, how do we actually start helping the changing of the world and society? Personally, we start by becoming curious. By becoming anxious about your surroundings. And then turning your anxiety to positive action. ASK QUESTIONS!

My Story

Hi everyone, my name is Al-vence Mojares, but you can just call me Vince. I'm 25 years old, originally from Batangas, Philippines but now residing in England, United Kingdom having moved here back in 2011.Now, you might be wondering what's the story behind all of this? Why have I gone through my time creating and designing this website? Well, I've always been really passionate about tackling certain world issues such as solving inequality in education, ending social isolation, inspiring action against climate change, and so on. Now, tackling or trying to solve these issues don't necessarily mean starting your own organisation or company to help battle these challenges but it can at least be from educating yourselves, amplification, donating, or even sharing stories. And that's exactly why I started this, to share stories. To communicate. To educate. To amplify. To donate. And finally, to be able to HELP.Honestly, I must say that the passion for helping others has always been something that I want to breathe in and take it to heart as I've always thought that when you're doing good things to others, you're doing good things to yourself.I have been fortunate to become a part of various kinds of charitable and helpful organisations whose vision and aims all share the same message and concept; to HELP. When I was in Colombia back in the summer of 2019, I managed to spend some time with the foster children of an NGO called Fundacion Juguemos en el Bosque. This was based in Medellin and it was incredibly rewarding to have helped these children get access to learning and educational resources from me having had the chance to teach them from Sports and Academia. I'm also proud to have been the first person to donate to these children where I donated some clothes that I had brought with me along in the trip.During my Final Year in University, I also became a Volunteer for two projects which are GreenFarm Family Hostel Homelessness and Allensbank Primary School. I had the chance to attend and visit these projects every week during my free time to help the homeless locals and families in Cardiff while also getting the chance to support primary school children with their homework in Allensbank.Recently, I was fortunate to have been given an incredible opportunity by Samsung to be part of their brand-new educational initiative, called "Samsung Not A School 2020". Samsung Not A School is a deliberately disruptive education programme designed to empower anyone who wants to build a better future, inspire a better world, and challenge the status quo through exploring the most important social issues in the world and how technology can help solve them. Throughout the programme, I’ve explored pressing issues such as climate crisis, inequality in education, online culture, and social isolation while gaining access to inspiring experts, activists, and organisations who are already doing amazing things to drive real social change. It has been such a rewarding experience to learn about what’s facing our society today and has allowed me to drive myself forward and make a contribution by hopefully being able to start my own small charitable project of helping children with lack of access to education and materials back in the Philippines.Furthermore, I have spent time working as a User Experience Researcher for DRD Vietnam. DRD is a Center for Research and Capacity Development Center aimed to help improve the quality of lives of people with disabilities based in Ho Chi Minh City. This is a remote internship programme that I managed to land during the pandemic and the biggest reason for me doing it is simple, the Core Values of the organisation. I would always be extremely grateful for having this opportunity to mix and share the technology and design aspect of the software with the third and charity sector. My work includes designing new experiences and functionality that will help improve the lives of PWD's by means of User Experience and Accessibility. Now, I cannot wait to start my journey to helping and participating in the remote volunteering programme of Kythe Foundation. I will be involved in helping and volunteering for this great foundation to improve the quality of lives of pediatric patients who have been diagnosed with cancer and other chronic illnesses.Together with the Kythe Foundation, I will also be volunteering on another remote basis for makesense Philippines, specifically for the ReAction Program. Reaction is a program that gives you concrete objectives and actions to take during this important period, to help vulnerable people deal with the situation we are currently experiencing from access to water, housing, job security, hygiene, food security, and supporting our front liners or providing mental health support.I’m also incredibly grateful to have been assigned to a specific project in Philippines called Project SMILE, a youth-led NGO whose main advocacy is to uplift the lives of underprivileged and neglected individuals while also ensuring that children with disabilities get access to quality therapy services.Back in November 2020, I volunteered to start a crowdfunding service for a charity organisation called Rise Against Hunger Philippines. During this time, the Philippines were in serious need of help from everyone due to the incredibly strong typhoons that hit them. This is when I organised a crowdfunding campaign using GoFundMe to help victims of strong typhoons that recently occurred in the Philippines My initial plan was aiming to donate the money raised directly to Rise Against Hunger Philippines so that food aid can be supplied to families, individuals and communities.I have also been recently offered two volunteering positions for two children and youth-disability projects based in Cardiff under the SVC. These are BBC Children in Need's Be Friends and Down's Syndrome Association's Laugh Out Loud Friday's. Both of the projects are similar in a way that they aim to help children and young adults with mental health issues, learning disabilities or physical disabilities to socialise and engage altogether, which in turn helps build their social and communication skills. I commit my time every week to help support the beneficiaries through providing a befriending service in order to promote well-being and self-esteem, combat feelings of isolation and boredom. Some of the specific activities I take part in involves having a chat with them as well as playing games over a video call or undertaking other activities such as cooking/baking together, watching films, dancing, playing online games, etc.My next step will be starting a new role as a Tutor Volunteer for The Access Project, a project which aims to help disadvantaged students through tutoring to get them prepared for college and the higher education system. I hope to become a positive role model: making a significant, lasting impact on a young person’s future.Lastly, as well as Volunteering, a friend and I have also started a project platform called "We Are Present Today" which is designed in order to provide resources and support to anyone experiencing a mental health problem or simply want to learn about it. It is a project that focuses specifically on Anxiety and Depression through the aim and purpose of spreading awareness, supporting and educating young minds.

Please do let me know if there is anything I can add too. It’s extremely important for us to maintain and increase awareness with what’s happening to continue to stay educated and help those in need. TOGETHER we can make a change! This is helpmakeachange.co.uk.
